About the Author
Dick Riley's novels and plays include collaboration on the best-selling Black Sunday (with Thomas Harris), Rite of Expiation, and the drama Middleman Out. He lives in White Plains, New York.Pam McAllister is the author of ten books, including three others in Continuum's Bedside, Bathtub &Armchair Companion series which she co-authored with Dick Riley, on Shakespeare (2001), Sherlock Holmes (1999), and Agatha Christie (1979). Her other books include Death Defying: Dismantling the Execution Machinery in 21st Century U.S.A. (Continuum, 2003) about ending capital punishment and two books about women's use of nonviolent action for social justice. In 1982, she edited the groundbreaking anthology Reweaving the Web of Life: Feminism and Nonviolence (New Society Publishers), which the Village Voice called "one of the most important books you'll ever read." She currently writes a column for The Progressive Christian magazine.

I was glad to find a new version was still available

I had this book when originally published--in large size, but I gave it away to another Christie fan. I was glad to find a new version was still available. It is the best book I have found giving all the Christie book summaries plus much more. However I would have prefered it in the larger size. I didn't realize it was smaller when I ordered it

A Golden Nugget

First off, let me say that I am not your "typical" Christie fan. I am a twenty-four year old male who loves mystery novels, especially if they involve a M. Poirot, or a Ms. Marple. I was browsing a new used book store in my town, when I decided eye up the Christie's. After a glance at the softcovers I walked over to the hardcover Christie section and found this book that I have neither seen or heard of, the Christie companion. And with the three dollar price tag it was a must have, although I would have paid fifty.
I seen another reviewer refer to an older copy, and that is what my version is. On to the review though... simple put it is a must have for anyone familiar with Agathas work. Casual and hardcore fan alike. You can read it front to back, or use it as a bathroom book, I chose the former. And to the reviews comment about the "N" word. It was written in a different time period, and location where those racial boundries haven't been created. She is not being disrespectful for goodness sakes!
Overall great book, lots of little potpouri information, GREAT find! A true diamond in the rough...

Light reading to supplement Christie's books.

This book isn't anything more than it says it is - a Companion to the works of Agatha Christie. It's several short essays that explains the plot of each book (but never gives away the ending) and has several companion essays that tell the story of Christie's life and life in England while she was alive. There are essays on how people dressed, how servants were treated, how Christie treated lower-class characters in her books. There are essays delving into the psychology of our favorite detectives.
It's meant to be picked up and read in short bursts. It provides a lot of information in quick bits.
It's by no mean a comprehensive biography of Christie. Several essays are much better than others. But it's a nice little companion for Christie fans.
