What becomes clear, however, is that the tale is far more complex than this since it involves Saul and is set within a context of a warrior society that takes for granted that male heroes will be accompanied by younger or lower status males. Thus the complex erotic connections between David and Saul and David and Jonathan play out against the backdrop of a context of "heroes and pals."

The second type of same sex relationship explored has to do with shamanistic forms of eroticism in which the sacral power of the holy man is both a product of same sex relationship and expressed through same sex practice. This section deals with Samuel and Saul and Elijah and Elisha. These are not warriors but persons whose sacral power is also erotic power that may find expression in erotic practices with persons of the same sex.

The third type of same sex relationship discusses we now call transgendered persons, especially males, and their erotic relationship to (other) males. Here the book explores the transgendering of Israel by several prophets who use this device to explore the adultery and promiscuity that they wish to attribute to Israel, as well as the story of Joseph.

Take Back your Faith

Jennings has written an excellent book which gives an excellent introduction to homoeroticism in the old Testament. This book is a nice complement to his work The Man Jesus Loved which is about the new testament.
Gay people should not be ashamed about who we are as we attend church. There is no reason for us to drift away from our faith as we explore our sexuality. Read this an be free.

Well, I start to read about this subject after reading Howard Eilberg-Schwartz. When I found this book, I was surprised how the bible tell us about homoeroticism and everything is implicit.
I think that Theodore Jennings is so clear on the issues.

This book is one of the few efforts by a native Hispanic resident to examine the city's traditions and cultures. Andrew Leo Lovato's focus is to understand how outside influences have affected Hispanic cultural identity and how this identity is being altered and maintained. Lovato also analyzes the development of homegrown Hispanic cultural identity in Santa Fe.

Looking at the impact of tourism, he asks questions that resonate in any city relying on tourism for its livelihood: When a culture is defined, interpreted, or co-modified by outsiders, are natives of that culture influenced by the outsiders' interpretation? Do outsiders' definitions become part of their self-identity?

Lovato begins by reviewing Santa Fe's history, from the Anasazi to the present-day tourist boom. In attempting to define the city's cultural identity, he includes excerpts from interviews with some of New Mexico's intelligentsia. Other interviews help examine the Santa Fe Fiesta and the city's identity as an art market. The concluding chapter, which considers tourism's general impact, features discussions of authenticity, the impact of tourism on native cultures, the relationship of tourism to development, and the political dimension of tourism.

Great General Overview

Horrell did a great job at giving a summary of the directions and trends in Pauline studies. Overall he presented a wide spectrum of views on each topic. The section on Paul, Israel, and Jewish Law was very strong. This would be a great book for lay people to an undergradute Paul class.

The second part of the book presents the concrete conduct or practice of the Noahide laws. About the Author
Rabbi Dr. Shimon Cown, Founder and Director of the Institute for Judaism and Civilization in Melbourne, has utilized distinct facets of his own background in the writing of this book. With a general, academic background and a PhD in social philosophy, he knows how to communicate the concept of ancient, eternal and universal ethics to those raised in a secular culture, in terms of its language and the concepts of its disciplines. With Rabbinic qualification obtained both in Australia and Israel and a long period of study in the Kollel Menachem, Melbourne, of which he became its Director of Community Education, he acquired teh skills necessary to research these laws from their sources. It was during this period that he produced a translation of, and commentary on, an important text, Seder Bircas Hanehenin. the technical research required for the second part of the present work was carried out under the review of one of the world's greatest authorities in this area of traditional law.

Great souce for studying Noahide theology.

To be honest this book at least in the first few chapters will be a hard read for an average reader. There are a lot of complex words and sentence structures that is more in line with a college thesis paper. But the nuggets you dig out of this priceless and very thought provoking. I would have to say that I gained much insight on the Sheva Mitzvos that I did not have before reading this book. This is a great book on the study of Noahide theology - I would recommend this book.

There are no black and white answers!

The author has compiled a diverse bunch of interviews that don't try to do anything more that speak honestly about who these people are and the experiences they've had since film school. Some good, some bad, some indifferent. I think the previous reviewer was probably tripped up by the sub heading "in depth advice" which probably should have said "personal stories". That said, to give this book one star was ludicrous and the reviewer should stick to reading Script magazine if he only wants the stories of people who've made it huge. There are no secrets to success and, all in all, I found the book to be a healthy dose of reality. It showed me that a career in the business (i.e. earning a living) does not require becoming an overnight sensation.

Fabulous!!!!

It's truthful, direct & I have found it to be extremely accurate in all the details plus a pleasurable read! The range of interviewees, from industry veterans to people who've just graduated and are carving their own careers is inspiring and gives me hope that I too, can make it. Those of us born without the advantage of close relatives already in the business need books like this.

Telling It like It Is.

Ok, to be honest, I groaned when I learned that I had to read this book for my screenwriting class Julie teaches. Great, just what I needed, a teacher who wrote her own book. Much to my surprise, this book tells you some great insight on the film industry. As a film student, you don't realize the dirty side that's in the business; you only think of the glory. The book interviews real industry people -producers, screenwriters, production designer. If you are interested in something other than directing, this book tells you some accounts of people that can help you from making their mistakes. I highly recommend this book, along with this teacher who teaches at Chapman University. (No, I SWEAR I was not paid to say this. I honestly learned a lot in this class.)
